Meet the founders

We’re Bill and Nathan. We are passionate, proven landscape architects with decades of experience on over 125 projects. We founded Back40 as a team because we enjoy working together and love collaborating with clients to create dynamic outdoor spaces that connect people to place.

When you work with Back40, you benefit from our combined expertise. Bill drives project execution from concept to construction as well as heading up business development. Nathan specializes in using the latest technology for design visualization and documentation. Both of us come to the table with a proven background in program ideation, design innovation, and material assemblies during the design process.

“Our team at SA+R has worked with Bill and Nate for many years; finding success on numerous projects of varying types and at multiple scales. Their creativity and collaboration during the exploration phases, followed by dedicated expertise during execution, allows the best solutions to emerge and become reality. It has been a fun and fulfilling experience working with both Bill and Nate and look forward to continuing to do so for years to come!”
